The Akron Civic Theatre’s Jazz@the Civic series gives music fans the chance to hear jazz artists in one of the region’s most gorgeous old theaters. Artist and audience share an intimate space on the stage of the sumptuous theater with its starlight sky ceiling and ornate balconies.
Pianist Joe McBride, who’ll perform tonight, was born in Missouri and acquired his musical education at the world-famous North Texas State music program. His latest album, 2009’s Lookin’ for a Change, features jazzy takes on contemporary tunes by artists like Seal, Corinne Bailey Rae, Coldplay, John Mayer, and Gnarls Barkley. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
