UofA Opens First Branch in Cuyahoga County

Lakewood is officially a college town. Although Virginia Marti College of Art & Design has been in town since 1966, now it’s official: Lakewood is now the home of a branch of one of the major universities in Ohio. The University of Akron Lakewood Higher Education Center opens officially this fall, offering classes in Nursing and Education, and partnering with local institutions such as Lakewood Hospital, Lakewood Public Schools and the Lakewood Library system.

Watch this exclusive video interview with Dr. Luis Proenza, President of the University of Akron, at the open house and dedication ceremonies on 9/22/11, as he talks about how city officials and leaders approached the University of Akron, and how this led to the creation of classrooms and distance learning facilities in the University of Akron Lakewood Higher Education Center in the Bailey Building at the intersection of Detroit Avenue and Warren Road in Downtown Lakewood.
