05.30.2024 Food Strong Superior Farm Ribbon Cutting

Fri 5/30

Last year, the urban farm at East 67th and Superior, which had served as Community Green House Partners for 10 years but had been dormant for several years, was donated to the nonprofit Food Strong, which works to build a healthier and more accessible food system for all Clevelanders. It does so through array of educational and hands-on programs, including work with Cleveland schools. Now it will add growing food to its portfolio at the re-named Superior Farm.

For months volunteers have been working to clean up the site, toss trash, cut down dead trees and in general make the place livable and workable. On May 30, Food Strong hosted an event to officially cut the ribbon, inviting guests to plant vegetable starters in raised beds in its one restored hoop house (more to come). Proclamations were read by state rep. Terence Upchurch and county councilors Dale Miller and Yvonne Conwell; local city councilor Stephanie Howse-Jones added her congrats, and DJ Doc Harrell of the Refresh Collective brought a group of his kids to perform some self-penned raps. Food Strong has good a good start on its ambitious plans, including restoring the former church at the heart of the property to create a community of spaces for complementary organizations and making the historic onsite farm house livable again for workers and visitors.
