Fri 1/3/20 The Winchester Music Tavern

Fri 1/10/20 BOP STOP

Fri 1/17/20 CLE Urban Winery

All shows begin at 8PM

Covering all the chameleonic eras of David Bowie’s entire life, A Friday Night With(out) David Bowie will be presented on successive Fridays in January, 2020 at three venues: on Friday, January 3 at The Winchester Music Tavern in Lakewood, on Friday, January 10 at BOP STOP in Cleveland, and on Friday, January 17 at CLE Urban Winery in Cleveland Heights. Each event will differ slightly. Rather than a tribute act, these unique shows celebrate David Bowie with fast-moving, highly researched explorations. We will take the audience on a deep dive into greater understanding of the artist’s life and times, offering context and perspective on the artist’s music and legacy. And each show ends on a cathartic note with a live rock and roll concert by Vanity Crash featuring a selection of Bowie favorites side by side with the band’s sizzling originals.

A Friday Night With(out) David Bowie. This live interactive presentation, by arts impresario and Bowieologist Thomas Mulready, traces the artist’s life from his birth in the suburbs of London, to his years exploring mime and theatre, through his numerous and unsuccessful early rock bands, to his breakthrough with Ziggy Stardust and his first American hit Young Americans. The show continues through his furiously evolving music and personae such as The Thin White Duke, his experimental Berlin era, the worldwide superstardom of Let’s Dance, all the way through his underrated but infinitely interesting late career, his brilliant final albums The Next Day and Blackstar , and his untimely death in 2016. Along the way, we investigate his breakthroughs in theatre, design, marketing, technology, finance and sexuality. Recently released historical materials fill in gaps and bring to light new insights into one of the most important artists and cultural figures of the past century. While this program is presented on three successive Fridays in January at three different venues, each presentation will contain slightly different material.

January is David Bowie Month. Presenting seven events in the first two weeks of January, 2020, musicologist Thomas Mulready and glam rockers Vanity Crash explore David Bowie from all angles, including shows celebrating Bowie’s birth (January 8) and death anniversaries (January 10), his most sensational era (Ziggy Stardust), in-depth surveys of his entire life and legacy, a special benefit show, plus two Sunday Bowie Brunches focusing on the much-overlooked second half of David Bowie’s remarkable life and career.

Each show opens with a meticulously researched and highly entertaining presentation by Bowie aficionado Thomas Mulready on the life of David Bowie and the stories behind his music, featuring rare video, music, needle drops, trivia, contests, giveaways and audience interaction. Each show is capped with a live music set by Cleveland’s glam punk superstars Vanity Crash, featuring a number of Bowie hits and obscure album tracks, side by side with the band’s own stunning original material drawn from their five releases.

All shows are $25 per person and tickets are available at BowieShows.com, as well as at individual venues. Because of the intimate nature of these venues, it is recommended to secure your seat online in advance. All ages will be admitted. All shows carry a parental advisory due to the frank and honest nature of the material. A Bowie Bargain Badge is available for $100 offering one person admission to all seven shows.
