Artist Reflects on How Media Transmits Information in New Collages

Fri 4/2 @ 6-8PM

The house on East 156th Street just off Waterloo Road in North Collinwood that used to be Zygote Press’s Ink House was purchased last year by printmaker (and Zygote co-founder) Bellamy Printz and re-named the Deep End, home of Deep Dive Art projects. Its first floor is a print workshop; its second floor is an intimate gallery-type space for viewing works on paper.

The gallery space will be hosting a set of new collages by area artist Sarah Kabot, who is associate professor and Chair of the Drawing Department at the Cleveland Institute of Art. In them, Kabot uses Sunday editions of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the New York Times to explore how information is transmitted and received in the traditional print media. She cuts and scrambles the papers, conflating events, places and cultures, creating thought-provoking juxtapositions. Some of these original works will be the basis for larger digital prints she’s working on to e shown later this year.

The exhibit at The Deep End will also include a pair of drawings on Duralar paper called October 5th, which revolve around her father’s death and how grieving would have been different during Covid isolation.

Kabot’s work will be on view Friday April 2-Saturday May 2. The Deep End will be open for Walk All Over Waterloo Friday April 2 and Friday May 7 @ 6-8pm; other times by appointment.
