The weather is still looking mild and pleasant, so don’t waste any time taking in the monthly Walk All Over Waterloo art walk in the Waterloo Arts District, now voted Ohio’s favorite arts district. Stroll the three blocks filled with galleries, restaurants and music venues, and be sure to stop at the Tower Stage on the corner of Waterloo and East 152nd to catch free live music by two outstanding local acts, Black Voltron and Wave Rowanne. Black Voltron is a musical collective blending soul, disco, world music, jazz and hip hop, led by Robin “Hyperius Blake” who won a Cleveland Arts Prize Verge award for emerging artists earlier this year, while Wave Rowanne’s electronic dance pop is a combination of producer/trumpeter Wave Magnetik and vocalist Rowanne Atallah.
Painter Tim Callaghan is from the neighborhood and he has a show of new works called Baroque Down Horizon that recently opened at William Busta Projects, showcasing his distinctive style of depicting ordinary local streetscapes that are both highly realistic and oddly idealized.
Waterloo Arts will be opening at new show featuring textile work by Adjin Kulic with an artist talk at 7pm.
Galleries such as Article and Praxis Fiber Workshop also have shows worth checking out, with Char Norman’s lovely Nature Bound assemblages still on view at Praxis and sculptures by Tom Schemrich and Giancarlo Calicchia at Article.
And in recent months Nu Life Fitness has had its own little mini-festival going on in front of its facility with bands, maker vendors and food. Come on down, bring your dog and hang out!
