Fashion designer Valerie Mayan is one of the area’s tireless entrepreneurs. The owner of Yellowcake Design shop in Cleveland’s Gordon Square area (it’s been at several locations in the neighborhood, currently 6706 Detroit Avenue) is known for her locally created, domestically made women’s fashion, with well-made, timeless styles intended to be long-loved wardrobe staples instead of trendy “fast fashion.”
Over the years, she’s also hosted a variety of special events, both in and out of her shop. Once again, she’s doing her Hi, Fashion event, an informal afternoon of talks, workshops and family-friendly hands-on activities. The overall theme of the event is “a day of sustainable fashion fun,” raising awareness of fashion’s impact on the environment, something that her dedication to making garments you’ll wear for many years plays into.
