The Cleveland Pops Orchestra Celebrates American Music

Sat 6/6 @ 7:30PM

While the excitement around the celebration of the U.S.’s 250th anniversary doesn’t seem as intense as that of its bicentennial in 1976, this time of year, heading into the 4th of July, still brings a bumper crop of “celebrating America” concerts every year.

On deck this weekend is the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, which will take the stage at Severance Music Center to perform a night of “Made in America” music, encompassing jazz (ragtime, Dixieland, big band), rock, county, blues and hip hop, among other genres. There will also be the obligatory salute to the armed forces, as well as to first responders (I always wish they’d also include those VERY first responders—teachers—but these programs tend to be very masculinized.)

Joining the orchestra and the Cleveland Pops Chorus will be the Brass Band of the Western Reserve, and Northeast Ohio-based vocalists Mariama Whyte, Natalie Green, Darryl Lewis and Connor Bogart O’Brien.
