The 42nd Annual Button Box Bash Promises to Be "the Woodstock of Polka"

Sun 4/26 @1-6PM

The National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame may not have the money, glamor and tourism of the Rock Hall, but it’s tireless in promoting the Slovenian style polka of which Cleveland was a mecca in the early-mid 20th century. And this week its presenting what it’s calling “the Woodstock of polka music,” its 42nd annual Super Button Box Bash.

You don’t have to sit in mud, use port-a-potties or avoid the brown acid. There’s plenty of seating, real bathrooms and a bar and menu of ethnic specialties (Slovenian sausage, strudel and more) at the American Croatian Lodge in Eastlake.

There’ll be at least 50 accordion players on hand for nonstop jamming, and you’re invited to bring your own and join in. If you’re not a musician, the dance floor beckons: you can stomp out those polkas and swirl to those waltzes all afternoon.

Advance tickets are just $12 (call 216-261-3263 or email PolkaShop@aol.com) or pay $15 at the door. Bring the kids too and introduce them to their heritage: 18 and under are free.
