New Shows and Outdoor Music Highlight Walk All Over Waterloo

Fri 6/5 @ 5-9PM

There’ll be several new things to see this month at Walk All Over Waterloo in the Waterloo Arts District.

One of the must-sees will be the new show Blooming Tides at Waterloo Arts, curated by Davon Brantley, whose star is rising rapidly both as an artist and a curator. He says, “This exhibition features Black, AAPI and Latinx Artists and is intended to explore the interconnection, influence and/or impact of their cultures amongst each other through various media. This exhibition allows viewers to see the works from these three cultures inform, influence and/or align in themes related to their experiences in life and their careers, thus allowing for discourse on indirect and direct connections amongst marginalized groups, exposing shared worlds despite difference and distance.”

Nine artists’ work will be included in the show: Nicole Alvarez, Ashton Burton, Liana Gonzalez, Yasmeen Kwan, Nick Lee, Younghyeon Ryu-Hurst, Sebastian Sosa, Lauren Sylvia and Jurnee Ta’Zion. It will be on view through July 18.

Also opening this month is a show of work by Frank Hadzima called Normal Paintings at the Maria Neil Art Project Gallery. Frank Hadzima’s work is inspired by anime and other similar characters, using their stylized design and candy colors to explore the impact of the internet.

And with the weather warming up, live music returns to the outdoor Tower Stage with one of Northeast Ohio’s hottest bands, Apostle Jones, whose bluesy, soul-influenced, horn-driven rock & roll has been collecting fans in the area at a rapid pace. The band just released its debut album 2nd Chances Don’t Come Easy this past March. Also playing is local singer/songwriter/guitarist/ producer/educator Taylor Lamborn. Music happens from 6:30-8:30pm.
