Sat 5/9 @ 11AM-4PM
From time to time, the Morgan Conservatory for papermaking arts has an open house to show visitors all the opportunities it offers artists and aspiring artists.
The all-ages, family-friendly event provides lots of chances to get your hands wet — in some cases literally. You can learn how they make paper from scratch using bark from the kozo mulberry trees they grow in the back, as well as book binding, letterpress printing and marbling (where you can get wet!) There’ll be interactive demonstrations and you can make things to take home. And yes, you’ll be able to tour the Sam Caraboolad Kozo Garden and learn why these trees are used for papermaking. (Come back in November and you can help with the harvest and bark stripping.) You can also see where they’re prepping to create their new Native Plant & Rain Garden and check out the last day of their current juried exhibition for some inspiration to see what you can aspire to if you sign up for the Morgan’s workshops and classes.
Snacks and refreshments will be available. No registration is required; just stop by.
