The Akron Art Museum isn’t missing an opportunity to jump on the increasingly crowded Halloween bandwagon, with its Circa Thriller party, borrowing its theme from the legendary 1982 Michael Jackson massive hit record.
Attendees don’t have to dress as a character from the elaborate (and expensive!) video that accompanied the song “Thriller,” but people are encouraged to come in costume to enjoy a variety of activities. They include dance lessons from Jen Garlando, DJ Rybar spinning Halloween music to dance to, a Thriller flash mob, trick or treating in the galleries, tarot readings, art-making opportunities, and a cash bar and pizza available for purchase.
There will be the obligatory costume contest, with multiple categories. If you want to plan ahead, they include best living art (inspired by artwork or artistic techniques and mediums), best group or couple, best DIY costume, best pop culture-inspired costume, wild card winner (“costumes that defy all categories”) and best masterpiece — “best in show.” They offer the usual warning at events such as this: “No full-face masks, heavy face paint, glitter, weapon-like props, or excessively oversized costumes are permitted.”
The event is for those 18 and over. Get tickets here.
