Karamu kicks off a new theater season with a play that will have huge appeal to one of its core audiences: Black women.

Sistas The Musical looks directly at their experiences, in life and in music, with five women cleaning out their matriach’s home and sharing the stories behind the things they uncover, their memories and the music meaningful to them, ranging the 1930s to the 1990, from Billie Holiday to Beyoncé.  The play, written by Columbia professor Dorothy Marcic, ran off Broadway for six years. At Karamu it will be directed by well-known local actor/dancer/vocalist/educator Treva Offutt.

The show opens on Thursday September 25 and runs through Sunday October 18. Get tickets here.
