The next few weekends the plant sales will be coming hot and heavy. Almost every nature-related organization will have one, along with community gardens and neighborhood groups. So if you’re in the market for plants keep your eyes open. And with climate change, they can almost all go in the ground now — no more waiting for Memorial Day.
One of the first out of the gate is the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, a great place to spend the day strolling around on its trails. But if you go Saturday May 9 from 10am-3pm, you can pick up hanging baskets, native perennials in quarter or gallon pots, flats of annuals, trees, shrubs, vegetables and herbs at its annual plant sale. There’ll be gardening experts there to help you make selections that work for your landscaping situation. There are also early entrance hours for members from 8:30-10am. There’s no admission fee.
