CVNP Program Explores the Science Behind Fireflies

CVNP Program Explores the Science Behind Fireflies

Wed 5/6 @ 5-7PM

There’s nothing more enchanting on a summer evening at dusk than to go outside on a lawn or park or meadow and watch fireflies. Even if you’re well past the age when you want to try to catch them in a jar, it’s a great stress-reliever just to sit and look as they flit and flicker.

But how much do you know about them? You probably know the flickers are a mating game. Maybe you know they become more scarce when there’s too much ambient light. But if you want to know more, Cuyahoga Valley National Park naturalist Carly Martin will share at CVNP’s next Low Power Happy Hour networking and education event at Happy Days Lodge. She’ll share her lifelong love of fireflies and talk about their diversity including the more than 20 types found in Ohio and the surprising fact that some types are both poisonous and venomous.

The evening begins at 5pm with networking and cocktails available. The program starts at 5:30 with a Q&A at 6:15. There’s more networking and hanging out from 6:30-7pm.
