Curator Megan Alves Talks About Show of Work by Incarcerated Men at CWRU Community Center

Sat 2/7 @ 1-3PM

The Case Western Reserve University Community Engagement Center opened last year to give residents who live in the communities bordering University Circle a place where they can take part in some of educational and relationship opportunities available at CWRU.

Last October, it opened an art show called One Art, One Community, featuring work in a variety of styles and techniques by 16 artists who are currently incarcerated, put together in partnership with the Grafton Correctional institution, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction. It aims to share with the larger community the humanity of people who are incarcerated. Some of the works are accompanied by thoughts from community members, some of them impacted by incarceration. And all sales benefit the artists.

The show is on view weekdays from 9am-5pm. But if you stop by this Saturday afternoon you can hear a talk by the show’s co-curator Megan Alves, former marketing and program manager at Artist Archives of the Western Reserve, which is presenting her talk. You can learn more about the art programs at Grafton, and the benefits they offer to the people incarcerated there.

It’s free but tickets are required. Go here.
