Oliver Mtukudzi, familiarly known as Tuku in his homeland of Zimbabwe, is, like many African musical icons, also a cultural and political icon who is a human rights activist and UN Goodwill Ambassador. Now 62, he’s got dozens dozens of albums to his credit, featuring music that blends African rhythm and vocal traditions with contemporary pop styles, sometimes singing in his native language and sometimes in English.
It’s always a treat when we get to hear a legendary artists comes this far to play a venue like the Bechland Ballroom. Oliver Mtukudzi & his Black Spirits will perform in the ballroom with Cleveland Afrobeat ensemble Hybrid Shakedown opening.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
