Gaelle Solal Comes to Plymouth Church @ClevelandGuitar Society

Sat 2/28 @ 7:30PM

In her mid 30s, the Marseille-born Gaëlle Solal is one of the rising stars of classical guitar. She was winning significant international competitions by the time she was in her early 20s and since then has toured and given master classes all over the world.

She’s also known as an advocate for contemporary music for her instrument, which is important because its repertoire is more limited than for instruments such as the violin or piano.

But when she comes to Plymouth Church UCC to perform as part of the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society’s International Series, she’ll focus mostly on music from the first half of the 20th century by composers like Egberto Gismonti, Ernesto Nazareth and Anibal Augusto Sardinha, all Brazilians. But her eclectic program also includes an arrangement of a traditional Turkish piece, “Drama Köprüsü,” and Bach’s Partita No. 1.

Tickets are $20.
