The way things are going in the U.S. these days, expect some radical right-wingers to start advocating for the repeal of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote 99 years ago. And yes, there were challenges!
Meanwhile, a celebration is in order, and the Women’s Vote Project is having “The Celebration of the Century” at the City Club of Cleveland, marking the year 100 years ago in which 22 states ratified the amendment. Judges, former officeholders and prominent Clevelanders will be given awards. The special guest is former Mayor Jane L. Campbell (2002-2006), now president of the U.S. Capitol Historical Society; the keynote speaker is Ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody Stewart, elected last November — the first African-American woman elected to the state Supreme Court and the first African-American Democrat elected statewide in Ohio. Luncheon is served at noon.
