Dru Thompson carefully built her successful fashion design/tailoring business Dru Christine in several locations, offering her custom designs as well as sewing classes, and teaching at the School of the Arts. She also wrote about fashion and entrepreneurialism for CoolCleveland.com. Her attentiveness to both the design and business sides of fashion earned her a stellar reputation.
She closed her retail location last year to move on to other projects, one of which is called Cleveland Frocktails. It’s described as “a stylish social and networking event celebrating Cleveland’s sewing, fashion and creative community.” She says, “Frocktails combines frock, meaning a handmade dress, and cocktails, meaning a formal setting, to create a special event to highlight fashion design in a community. Frocktail events happen all over the world; now Cleveland is holding one of its own,” adding “Guests do not have to sew or wear something handmade to attend … Come dressed in something that makes you feel amazing (bonus points if you made it yourself).”
The event, taking place at CLE Urban Winery in Cleveland Heights, welcomes sewists, DIYers, knitters, quilters, thrifters, and people who just love to express their own style through their look.
