SPACES’ Costume Party Benefit Has an America 250 Theme

Sat 11/7 @ 6PM

After a few years of semi-dormancy things are crackling at the artist-focused SPACES Gallery, which just closed a gorgeous, evocation film/installation by New York-based artist-in-residence Yelaine Rodriguez, featuring ceramics pieces created at Brick + Mortar on Waterloo. Before that it packed the gallery with an array of outstanding pieces by local artists in its ArtsPass members show this summer. And it’s bringing back some of its beloved events, including its November benefit party.

This year, it’s offering its own interpretation of America’s 250th anniversary with a costume party and a themed curated exhibition celebrating freedom of expression.

“We invite you to come dressed as your America—whether that means critique, ambivalence, irreverence, satire, celebration, or something entirely your own,” they say.

There’s a VIP reception from 6-7pm, with free food and drinks, a first look at the exhibit, meet-and-greets with the artists, and music by the Hashtag Virgo Jazz Quartet. The general admission event from 7-9pm features cash bar, snacks, art and “musical muppets” aka Floyd Pepper and the Impromptunes. There’s also a low-cost late- night party from 911pm with a cash bar, snacks and a dance party with electronic music artists, DJs and “collaborators” Neil Chastain (Pureplex) and Byron Lee.
