The Shaker Arts Council is presenting a special program called “An Evening of Poetry with Donald King.”

Local poet/storyteller King, the author of a book called I Never Rhymed for My Father, is the main attraction. The writer, now in his 80s, has used poetry to process a difficult childhood spent in foster care, and continues to write poems about struggle and perseverance, identity, history, faith and “the enduring spirit of the American experience.”. But he isn’t the only attraction. The evening will also feature local poets Vision and Linnette E. Lawson, with Wulfgar Darkenwald accompanying on bass. Monica Boone is the artistic director for the program.

It’s free but RSVPs are encouraged to plan for seating. (There is a suggested donation of $10 to support the performers and SHAC’s arts programming.) The event, which takes place at Loganberry Books, will start at 6:30 with refreshments, followed by the program at 7pm.
