Quintet of the Americas is a woodwind (plus horn) ensemble, which specializes in presenting folk and contemporary works by living composers reflecting the diverse cultures the Americas. Founded in Colombia in 1976, and based in New York City since 1979, the group travels widely, sharing their cultural stories in music. The current lineup (which given its long history, has changed over the years) includes flute player Kim O’Hare Bonacorsa, oboe player David Valbuena, clarinetist Andrés Ayola, horn player Barbara Oldham, and bassoonist Alex Davis.
Its current tour is billed as “AndeArt New Voices” and it spotlights new music by emerging Latin composers: Colombian composers Natalia Camargo Duarte, César Corredor Camacho and Luis Aconcha Torres, Costa Rican composer Sergio Delgado, and Cuban composer Jorge Amado.
In Cleveland, they will be presented by LatinUs Theater at its intimate Black Box Theater at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance and Expression.
