Angelo Merendino works as a local studio and editorial photographer. But he’s also earned a reputation as a fine art photographer for his personal project documenting his late wife Jennifer’s fight with cancer.

Portraiture is one of his specialties, so he hatched a plan to spend an evening taking portraits in a public place of whoever shows up — friends and strangers. It happened after a non-productive winter when he says, he arranged with his favorite bar, Forest City Brewery in Ohio City to bring his backdrop and lights during happy hour, made a few social media posts and told his friends to show up and have their picture taken,   about the event on social media, sent texts to some friends and promised myself that I’d let the night be whatever it would be. He ended up with 44 people showing up. So he did it again. And now he’s doing it yet again.

His community portrait project Pints & Portraits will be back at Forest City Brewery this Thursday June 18. It’s free and open to all. And each person who sits for a portrait will get a black-and-white digital file of their portrait.

“Solo sitters only — bring your friends, but you’ll each get your own moment in front of the camera,” he says. “No dress code. No charge.”
