It’s time again for another edition of Celebrate Trails Day, a nation program founded in 2013 by the Rails to Trails Conservancy to do just what its name says: raise awareness of the nation’s trails and their recreational potential for hiking, strolling and cycling. In Cuyahoga County, it kicks off Cuyahoga Greenway Partners’ Bike-with-a-Mayor season, giving you the opportunity to see what area mayors look like in bike helmets.
To kick things off though, you can see what Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne looks like in a bike helmet when he and other regional community leaders roll out to lead a community bike ride, highlighting two segments of the county’s regional trail network, the Shaker Median Trail and the Gates Mills Boulevard Trail.
“By supporting pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, we are not just building pathways—we are creating healthier, more connected communities,” says Ronayne. “Celebrate Trails Day is a great opportunity for residents to experience the trails we have today while also looking ahead to the continued growth of our regional trail network.”
There are several options to participate including a seven-mile round trip on both the Shaker Median Trail and the Gates Mills Boulevard Trail, a three-mile round trip on the Gates Mills Trail or a hike on as much of the Gates Mills Trail as you like. Bike Cleveland and Slow Roll Cleveland will be on hand for ride support. And the Ohio City Bicycle Co-op will be there to offer bike safety checks.
There’ll be snacks and refreshments after the rides and walks.
