Celebrate Record Store Day With Strudel at The Current Year Records and Rudy's

Sat 4/18 @ 8AM-5PM

The twice-yearly Record Store Day, is an international event founded to promote independent record stores at a time when they were  But over time it has lost support as many felt it veered from its original purpose, favoring bigger stores over mom-and-pops to receive the special RSD releases, and dealers snapping up these releases to sell them for inflated prices online, while fans can’t find their most wanted releases in the stores. So some small shops have dropped out, while others have taken the ball and run in their own direction.

Among the latter is Parma’s The Current Year Records and Tapes. It’s declared Record Store Day to also be Rudy’s Strudel Day, celebrating the long-running (since 1948!) Polish bakery that is its next-door neighbor. For the first time, Rudy’s will have a sampling of all 12 of its European strudels, along with a hot pierogi bar, including a Taylor Swift-inspired cheeseburger pierogi. The Current Year will have some of the new, exclusive RSD releases although you never really know which ones — don’t blame them! And the parking lot outside the stores will become a vendor village with local artisans and vintage dealers. They promise swag from local businesses and concert venues as well.

Rudy’s opens at 8am; The Current Year opens at 9. Both will be rockin’ until 5pm. There’s also a kickoff party the night before at Bad Medicine at 13334 Lorain Avenue, with DJ Max Payola spinning at 7pm and giveaways and door prizes courtesy of The Current Year.
