Chicago-based Chilean-Pakistani guitarist Fareed Haque has musical roots planted firmly in both the classical and jazz worlds.  After traveling the world and studying jazz in Texas, he transferred to Northwestern University outside Chicago to immerse himself in classical guitar, while staying connected to the jazz community. He was soon working with Cuban jazz guitarist Paquito D’Rivera, one of many musically fruitful connections he’d soon be making. D’Rivera introduced him to Sting, who released Haque’s first two albums on his Pangaea label in the late 80s.

Since then, his collaborations would fill a large book, as he’s branched out into world music from diverse cultures, electronic music and Moog guitar, composing music in a wide range of styles. He’s also a retired educator who taught both classical and jazz guitar for more than 30 years.

He’ll be bringing his all-star trio, featuring two noted New York City musicians with lengthy credit lists of their own— drummer Mike Clark and acoustic bassist Peter Washington—to the Irishtown Bend Taproom in Ohio City. Go here for tickets.
