Artist Sean Wheeler Shows New Work at Tinnerman Loft

Thu 1/29 @ 5:30-7PM

Cleveland artist Sean Wheeler, who works out of 78th Street Studios where he recently opened a show in its Gallery 215, didn’t start making art until he was in his early 40s, but since then he’s produced work in an astonishing variety of styles, both abstract and figurative, in a variety of mediums.

It’s a good thing, because he’s opening another show at the same time. His upcoming show at Tinnerman Lofts Project Space is called I Carry Your Heart With Me. This new body of paintings are done on reclaimed coffee bags, transforming their worn surfaces with layers of paint and text.

We’re told “Wheeler transforms these humble surfaces into intimate carriers of memory, labor, and devotion. Working directly on coffee sacks—objects already marked by travel, handling, and use—Wheeler explores themes of connection, endurance, and the quiet ways we hold one another through time. Each piece balances fragility and resilience, inviting viewers to consider what it means to carry love, grief, and history in both body and material.”

The show opens with a free public reception on Thursday January 29.
