The Musical Theater Project launched its holiday cabaret back in 2005 — 20 years ago. Some of you probably remember them from the old Nighttown. They’re continuing at EDWINS, but those shows are sold out. So if you want to catch this year’s cabaret performances you’ll have to drive west to Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Theatre where they’ll have two performances this weekend.
There, founding artistic director Bill Rudman will host an evening of holiday and seasonal standards from movies (“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” sung by Judy Garland in Meet Me in St. Louis) and great American songwriters such as Irving Berlin and Sammy Cahn/Jule Styne. From “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” to “Frosty the Snowman” (originally recorded by Gene Autry and Jimmy Durante!) and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (also recorded by Autry, a #1 hit in 1949). Rudman and co-host Nancy Maier will provide the narrative that ties the evenings together while Natalie Green and Joe Monaghan sing the tunes. Go here for tickets.
