A new bookstore called Wandering Lantern Bookstore opened in Lakewood in late 2025 to provide a selection of handpicked books for children as well as a community space for families and cozy nooks for hanging out and reading. Owners Michael Plant, a real estate agent, and Emily Mitchell-Polci, who teaches third and fourth grade reading and writing at a nearby private school will help you pick the perfect book for your child.
When we visited, they were readying the adjoining space for parties and events, with a cozy fireplace. They also host special events such as weekly story times, craft nights, a family classics book club and even a hot cocoa pajama party. They even incorporated some of the vintage Alice in Wonderland-themed murals and decorations, which Mitchell-Polci and Plant rescued from Malley’s ice cream parlor on Madison when they renovated. Welcome to Lakewood’s first children’s bookstore.
