Northeast Ohio certainly has enough special events, ranging from festivals to promotional “weeks,” focused on different types of food — pierogis, pizza, hot dogs, even pickles. But Akron’s Lock 3 is hosting one we haven’t seen before — The Sauerkraut Ball. The fermented cabbage-based food, found in many Eastern European cuisines, is typically a homely side dish, not a star attraction, but this festival apparently aims to change that.
A bunch of local restaurants will be vying to create the most appealing sauerkraut ball, adding their own touches of flavor. You can taste a variety and find your favorite. In addition, Lock 3 will be busting with holiday-themed activities, including ice skating, classical music performances and belly-warming wintry beverages.
