As far as string quartets go, the Berlin, Germany-based Leonkoro Quartet is a baby. While some can trace their roots back 60 years or more, the Leonkoro was founded in 2019. And most of the members are still in the 20s. Yet they’ve already attracted international attention nd won competition prizes. That unusual name? It combines the Esperanto words for “lion” and “heart.”
The ensemble will be making its first Cleveland appearance courtesy of the Cleveland Chamber Music Society, at the Cultural Arts Center at Disciples Church in Cleveland Heights. Their program will include Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in D major, Op. 2o, no. 4; Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13; and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Quartet in C sharp minor, Op. 131.
Roger Klein will present at pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm. Go here for tickets.
