A gerbil may not be quite as companionable as a cat or dog — they weigh only 3-4 ounces and must be kept in cages — and they’re short-lived (just 2 or 3 years) but they can provide entertainment and the nice feeling of having something living in the house to those who may be allergic to cats or dogs.

There you can meet experts and experienced gerbil owners and learn exactly what’s involved in keeping one — or better yet, several, in your house.
