Immerse Yourself in Films at the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival

The Chagrin Documentary Film Festival returns to Chagrin Falls for the 16th year, with six days’ worth of 73 diverse films on a wide range of subjects, both light-hearted and serious.

It starts with the opening night gala on Tuesday October 2 at the Chagrin Falls Intermediate School Auditorium where attendees can enjoy wine and appetizers, see celebrities walk the red carpet, and see the film John Candy: I Like Me, a documentary about the Second City/SCTV comedian and actor who died in 1994.

Films cover topics such as the war in Ukraine, the now-96-year-old guy who created the Pantone Matching Color System, flower clowns, sports, dealing with illness, a San Francisco pot deal who started a business to help people with HIV or AIDS, Appalachian Trail hiking, the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park, musician Jason Mraz, Hollywood “coroner to the stars,” the world of “fake” essays, the impact of climate change on sea turtle, child sexual abuse in the New Orleans Catholic diocese, and the British sport of flyball, featuring border collies. There are also local subjects such as Skate Rat Since ’88, about Cleveland skateboarder Kristian Svitak, The Heart of Rock and Roll: A Cleveland Rocks Story about Cleveland-based music manager David Spero, and The Eye of Cleveland, focusing on Herbert Ascherman, one of Cleveland’s most prominent photographers who balanced fine art and commercial photography careers.
