For nearly two decades — since 2006 — PetFix Northeast Ohio has been providing an incalculably valuable service to pet owners, rescues and feral colony caretakers: low-cost spaying and neutering. In that time the nonprofit clinic, which focuses strictly on those surgeries, has provided more than 130,000 surgeries — more than 11,000 annually — preventing the birth of potentially millions of unwanted kittens and puppies who might otherwise be euthanized or struggle to live on the street.
PetFix started as a mobile clinic before evolving into a brick-and-mortar clinic on East 222nd Street in Euclid with two full-time surgeons. Its only downside is the huge demand for its services and the frequently long waits for appointments, often months. They’ve just announced some very good news: by the end of the year, they will be opening a second clinic on Broadway Avenue in Garfield Heights.
“The need in Northeast Ohio is greater than ever,” says PetFix Executicve Director Christie Lucco. “With shelters overcrowded and some forced to euthanize adoptable animals due to lack of space, expanding access to spay/neuter is one of the most effective ways we can save lives and support struggling pet owners.”
The new clinic, well situated to serve Southeast Cleveland neighborhoods and nearby inner-ring suburbs typically underserved by vet services, will double PetFix’s current capacity. The new clinic will also grow the PetFix transport program, which brings animals from shelters, rural communities and low-income urban areas to the clinic.
“Opening this second location is not just about performing more surgeries,” says Lucco. “It’s about empowering people, preventing suffering, and strengthening the animal welfare network in Northeast Ohio.”
PetFix has also announced their “Spay It Forward” campaign to renovate and equip new clinic. If you are a pet lover who is NOT low income, they welcome your donations!.Go here.
