Pride in the CLE is getting stronger and louder and bigger and prouder every year. Don’t miss out on the fun: the parade itself on Saturday is a blast, and so are all the activities the rest of the day. The Peninsula Flea kicks off, the Art & Wine Festival takes over Kent, and the party goes on all night.Friday is another big day, with Little Italy’s summer art walk, the Hildebrandt Building’s First Friday open studios, a photo show in our national park, and another First Friday Hop taking place in 3 locations downtown. And the rest of the week is nothing to be ashamed of, offering the 23rd Annual Cleveland Classical Guitar Festival, the Cleveland Ballet dancing in a vineyard, and an Akron Art Museum Family Day honoring Pride month, among many other sweet events we’ve curated below.
Vanity Crash is psyched to be hosting the coolest Pride afterparty this Saturday after the parade and after the afternoon festivities. Rest up, hit the streets and plan to stay up late. You have a lot to be proud of.
The Cleveland Metroparks connect humans with nature. So writer Claudia Taller reminds us as she shares a recent visit to Metroparks’ Rocky River Reservation, one of the local outdoor treasures you can enjoy without making a long drive and spending a lot of money. And she notes how seasonal changes make return visits rewarding.
“We visited in late April—the trails were mucky, vernal pools hid young frogs and salamanders, downed trees crossed each other like pick-up sticks, and ephemeral spring flowers barely hid the leaves and mud forest floor. At the end of May, we drove through deep green forest, the leaves on the trees no longer that sweet yellow-green that possesses them soon after they unfurl. We walked on dry trails through a quiet greenway of tall plants and wild purple phlox.” Read more

We didn’t pick this fight, but we’re ready to continue the struggle to uphold our democracy. Let’s make it as simple as possible: Republicans have illegally gerrymandered the districts in the State of Ohio (so says the Ohio Supreme Court — three times), and those unrepresentative representatives are now trying to eliminate majority rule when voting on changes to the Ohio Constitution. Issue 1 will be voted on during a special election on August 8, which is itself illegal since the Ohio legislature banned special elections earlier the year. But that’s not stopping them… and that won’t stop us.
They’ve even admitted they sponsored Issue 1 in August in response to the citizen initiative to ensure women’s reproductive rights are protected by the Ohio Constitution at the next election in November. But they can’t bully us, and they can’t fool us. We will swarm the polls on August 8 and VOTE NO on Issue 1. Then we’ll hit the polls again in November to support women’s reproductive freedom. Mark my words. And mark your CALENDARS. Read more.
