Week of Events Marks Akron Civic Theatre’s Grand Re-Opening

Mon 8/9-Sun 8/15

This week is a big one for the Akron Civic Theatre, which celebrates its grand re-opening after a series of upgrades, improvements and changes, including its new 200-capacity Knight Stage.

It all starts on Monday August 9 @ 7:30pm with “An Evening of Creative Expression,” hosted by Hidden Tr3sures owner Sharetta Howse, which christens the Knight Stage. It’s described as an event featuring “art, theater, group sharing and self-expression with a focus on maintaining a healthy mind, body and spirit.” There’ll be spoken-word poetry performances and artists selling items such as books, jewelry, paintings and wearable art.

On Tuesday  August 10 @ 7:30pm, local jazz guitarist Dan Wilson and his trio will perform a free concert, followed on Wednesday August 11 @ 7:30pm with a free concert by guitarist/singer/songwriter Marc Lee Shannon, a longtime member of Michael Stanley’s Resonators, who has also released his own solo album.

Upcoming events include an evening with virtuoso guitarist Neil Zaza (August 12), a concert by The Scenic Route (August 13) and the Spirits of the Civic 2021 Great Gatsby Gala on Saturday August 14. Finally, there’ll be a free community open house on Sunday August 15 @ 2-5pm, with self-guided tours, free hot dogs, chips, beverages and ice cream, live music, a family movie, roaming artists and children’s activities in the Grand Lobby.
