Percussionist Jamey Haddad Takes Over the BOP STOP for Two Evenings

Thu 8/12-Fri 8/13 @ 7:30-9PM

Percussionist Jamey Haddad is a successful jazz/global music star, who lives among us while continuing to ply an international career.

The Cleveland native, who developed his interests in international rhythms while he was growing up in northeast Ohio, left Cleveland for the east coast for 30 years, first to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston (where he later became a professor), then to move to New York to built a career that has included more than two decades as a member of Paul Simon’s touring band and playing on hundreds of albums. In addition, he creates his own new percussion instruments claiming to have more than 1,000.

In the early 2000s, he returned to Cleveland to join the faculty of Oberlin Conservatory to teach percussion and improvisation.  His hometown called him back in the early ’00s, when he became a professor at Oberlin, teaching percussion and improvisation. That means we often have opportunities to hear him play hear, collaborating with many of the topnotch musicians who live in the area.

He’ll be returning to the BOP STOP for a two-night stand, joined by bassist Kip Reed, sax player, Chris Coles and pianist Leo Blanco. Tickets to hear him live are $20, and the bar AND kitchen will be open. Masks are required to enter. If you’re not comfortable with being in the club, you can watch the livestream on Facebook Live for free, with the option to donate to the band here.
