Poets Respond to Work at Heights Arts Gallery

Thu 4/22 @ 7PM

Heights Arts has an ongoing series of events in its gallery called Ekphrastacy: Artists Talk + Poets Respond. Its title is pretty description of what the events are about.

A group of poets, invited by Cleveland Heights’ current poet laureate Ray McNiece, reflects on the current exhibits at the gallery and composes poems based on their responses to the work. They then present their work in the evening program known as Ekphrastacy.

Normally this would take place in the gallery surrounded by the art. Currently it’s taking place on Facebook Live. In the April edition, McNiece, Michael Salinger, Sara Holbrook and Will Sanchez will present poems written in response to Group Show 2021, featuring work by Julie Friedman, Paula Izydorek, Mark Keffer, Alessandro Ravagnan and Dante Rodriguez, and Spotlight: Bernadette Glorioso.

“Our traditional Ekphrastacy evenings, which are a favorite among our supporters, usually occur on the fourth Thursday of an exhibition. While our space is open to individual visitors, we are still unable to present audience-style programming,” says Heights Arts Executive Director Rachel Bernstein. “Therefore, we are looking forward to presenting them recorded and online until we can all be together again in the same space.”
