Station Hope Is Looking for Artists for This May’s Virtual Event

Sat 2/13 @ 2PM

Through Mon 2/22

We’ve gotta have hope — Station Hope, that is.

The annual arts event, organized by Cleveland Public Theatre, recognizes and reflects on the history of racism and social injustice, its causes and cures, through a day-long array of performances — speakers, poets, dancers, actors, musicians and more — and visual arts installations, ranging from photography to film to quilts. It takes place every year at the historic St John’s Episcopal Church in Ohio City, springboarding from its history as a stop on the Underground Railroad.

Well, it did for the first seven years. Its 8th edition scheduled for last May was first pushed back to late June — remember when we thought the pandemic would be over by summer? — and eventually, it became an online-only event.

This year they’re not taking any chances, despite the end being in sight. They’re planning the entire thing to be a virtual event on May 1. Describing it, they say, “Audiences will explore a virtual compilation of original artwork. With many performances to choose from, viewers will experience multi-disciplinary performances and visual art. Station Hope performances will be 3-10 minutes in length that may be shown multiple times throughout the event.”

They’re looking for proposals that are “bold, inventive, and thought-provoking… choirs, dance, short plays, art installations, poetry, performance art, solo pieces, etc… We want to curate an aesthetically diverse range of work and are open to educational, community, amateur, and professional groups.”

If you’d like to know more, they’re having an informational Zoom meeting for artists and organizations interested in participating. To RSVP email CPT artistic associate India Nicole Burton at iburton@cptonline.org.

Deadline for submissions is February 22. Go here for detailed instructions on what they’re looking for and how to submit.
