North Union Farmers Market’s annual Garlic Festival won’t be taking place this year, so you won’t have the chance to take in the music, the chef demos, the kids’ space and the garlic-flavored goodies including garlic ice cream.
But if you counted on this event to stock up on your garlic to plant (garlic goes in the ground in October), take heart! This week, the North Union market at Shaker Square will be bringing in a bunch of the farmers who offer planting garlic as they offer a scaled-down “Garlic at the Market,” taking place during its regular Saturday morning market. More than half a dozen vendors will offer an array of garlic varieties from the mild to the hot ‘n’ spicy. Vendors will be glad to share with you the difference between Chesnok Red, Music, and German White, and give you pointers on how to plant for the best results.
