SHEroes Feature Talented Jazz Women in BOP STOP

Thu 3/12 @ 7PM

German-born pianist Monika Herzig, who has a doctorate in music from Indiana University where she’s now on the faculty, is determined to show that there’s a wealth of talented women paying jazz, although you wouldn’t know it to look at the average jazz ensemble.

She gathered together some of the women playing around the New York music scene to form the band SHEroes, featuring six top layers including herself, guitarist Leni Stern, trombonist Reut Regev, flutist Jamie Baum, bassist Jennifer Vincent and drummer Rosa Avila. They released their first album in 2018 and now have another called Eternal Dance, which features compositions about healing and overcoming obstacles, written by Herzik, along with Regev, Baum, Vincent and Stern. It also features their own interpretations of “House of the Rising Sun” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

They’ll be bringing their new music to the BOP STOP. Admission is $20.
