Winterfest Kicks Off the Holiday Season in Downtown Cleveland

Cleveland’s annual Winterfest returns to kick off the holiday season with the traditional tree lighting on Public Square and lots of additional activities in and around the area, including Playhouse Square, where the Cleveland Play House hosts its popular Festival of Trees.

Main stage entertainment starts at 3pm with Cleveland’s Singing Angels, leading up to the 6pm tree lighting and fireworks, followed by a concert by Nashville country artists AC Jones and an afterparty in the lobby of 200 Public Square with cookies and cocoa.

But you can start celebrating as early as 9am when the skating rink at Public Square opens (you can skate all the way to 10pm) or visit Soldiers and Sailors monument starting at noon to meet Santa and buy holiday gifts. Other activities, such as a Winterfest Kids’ Village and horse-drawn carriage rides start at 1pm. There’ll also be food trucks and, for those who want to get out of the cold, activities in spaces such as Old Stone Church, Tower City Center, the Renaissance Hotel, the Cleveland Public Library, and 5th Street Arcades, where the resident artists will be joined by 75 local handcraft artists courtesy of the Cleveland Bazaar.
