Sat 10/22-Sun 10/23
Cleveland has seen explosive growth as a food town, plugged into the idea of fresh seasonal eating, organic, sustainable farming and exploring cuisines from around the word that Clevelanders never even knew existed back in the steak ’n’ burgers ’n’ European food ’70s and earlier.
So it’s a prime market for the special exhibition, Our Global Kitchen, put together by the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Currently at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History through Sun 1/8/17, it explores how people and their cultures have interacted with food cultivation and preparation and how that’s chances through the ages. Check out everything from ancient cooking and farming utensils to preparing a meal digitally and how sustainability and social justice issues are impacting food choices in a world of global climate change.
Each weekend throughout the run, there will be cooking demonstrations at 1, 2 and 3pm every Saturday and most Sundays. This week, chefs from Zach Bruell’s restaurants will prepare soups on Sat 10/22 to prep you for the coming cold weather. On Sun 10/23 Rus Welch of Mansfield, Ohio’s A Moveable Feast Supperclub will demonstrate and talk about how cuisine from India has influenced American cooking. Next week, check out Halloween treats on Sat 10/29 and Korean Cuisine with Tricia McCune of the Wok n Roll Food Truck on Sun 10/30. More upcoming events listed at the museum’s website. It’s free with regular admission.
