Sun 11/6 @ 6:30PM

Cleveland Opera Theater’s mission is to make opera more accessible. To accomplish that, it performs at a variety of venues around town and does some free performances such as its summer outdoor concert series and its upcoming presentation of the Christmas classic Amahl and the Night Visitors at Little Italy’s Holy Rosary Church Sat 12/17.

It also hosts its Opera Up Close evenings, special intimate performances that help fund its free events. For its first of the 2016-2017 it is collaborating with Baldwin Wallace Opera to present a world premiere adaptation of George Frideric Handel’s 1738 opera Serse, a relatively obscure opera based on Persian folk tales involving complicated, interwoven sets of lovers and mistaken identities worthy of Shakespeare.

Guest director/conductor Timothy Nelson will lead performers from the Baldwin Wallace opera program and a chamber orchestra in a staged, costumed performance taking place in the elegant setting of the Arcade. Tickets are $25-$200. VIP tickets include a pre-show reception with appetizers, beer, wine and valet parking.
