The Cleveland Orchestra offers something familiar and something brand new this weekend at its two concerts at Severance Hall. It will perform Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 4, written in 1935-6 but not performed until 1961, due to his fear of retribution from Stalin who had denounced his music.
The program also features the U.S. premiere of Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen’s orchestral song cycle let me tell you, featuring soprano Barbara Hannigan (pictured), who premiered the work in Berlin in 2013 and recorded it on her latest album.
Music director Franz Welser-Möst conducts. Tickets are $29-$149.
