NYC’s Soul Understated Plays Its Blend of Soul, Jazz, Gospel & Hip Hop @BluJazzAkron

SoulUnderstated

Sat 8/22 @ 8PM

New York City’s Soul Understated was formed seven years ago by vocalist Mavis “Swan” Poole and drummer Jeremy “Bean” Clemons, who collected an ensemble to the Big Apple’s most talented musicians to realize their vision of a band that combined the rich black musical traditions of soul, funk, jazz, gospel and hip hop.

With six dynamic musicians behind her, Poole (who has sung with Prince and Lauryn Hill) evokes classic jazz singers like Ella Fitzgerald as well as cutting-edge contemporary jazz, R&B and pop singers.

The band’s toured extensively, but this will be their first appearance at Akron’s BluJazz. Tickets are $15.
