True Story

10.15-10.22.14
True Story

Every word of it. I used to idolize James Joyce. He wrote fiction that was more real than real. (Is he overrated?) Now I write, more than I ever dreamed possible. And every word of it is true.

78th Street Studios is real. And when Hedge Gallery’s new show, True Story opens this Fri, Lucky the Painproof Man will be in attendance, as will many of the subjects on the walls. All true.

Are you in on the Kickstarter that’s funding CLE’s Tim Hayes and his Splash Infuser? Believe it or not, we are. Are you up on the next frontier in urban farming? Join us at the grand opening of Mansfield Frazier’s BioCellar project at his Vineyards of Chateau Hough for a truly inspiring good time.

Hard to believe, but the new Happy Dog at the Euclid Tavern is open, and Uno Lady will tell a few tales, some of which will be true. The Hauntaquarium is open, TEDxUrsuline is happening, the Akron Mini-Maker Faire is building, and In Training is back at Now That’s Class. I’ll be MCing the Beck Center’s Spotlight pARTy to raise money for art scholarships. Truth. –Thomas Mulready

True Story
Let Your Eyes Tell the Tale

Psst, you. Yeah, you. Come here. I’ve got a story for you (and it’s true…)

It’s about twins, zombies, bikers and pinups, but oh so much more. It brims with layers of imagery and implied narratives. True Story: Narrated by Hadley K. Conner and Sarah Curry is set to prove that an image is worth a thousand words. What story are you telling?

Splash Infuser
Customize Any Drink

Sure, the Splash Infuser sounds like a new ride at Cedar Point but in reality it’s a healthy living product being produced by Lakewood’s Cardboard Helicopter that will allow users to add their own fruit, veggies and herbs to their water or alcohol for a customized drink.

Cardboard Helicopter CEO and founder Tim Hayes tells Cool Cleveland that his research revealed similar-minded infuser bottles are hard to clean…

We waited this long — a year and a half — for Mason’s Creamery to open in Ohio City. And it finally opened last week to serve its handmade, small-batch ice cream from a permanent location. So don’t say it’s too cold for a cone. With flavors like pumpkin and caramel apple, and Christmas flavors on the way, it’s always ice cream season.

* Wondering what to do with all that harvest bounty? The Village Herb Shop in Chagrin Falls is hosting a fall harvest class that will have you slicing and dicing and mixing as you make pickled cucumbers and beets, salsa and even pumpkin pie spice. Sat 10/18.

* What’s the next frontier in urban farming? It could be biocellars, greenhouses built on the basement foundations of demolished homes. Mansfield Frazier of Hough Chateau Vineyards and Biocellar has the first one under construction. Stop by his open house and see what it’s all about. Fri 10/17.

As a youngster growing up in the 1950s, I would frequently ride my bike from my home on W. 67th Street near Lorain to the small ball field on Herman Avenue where my dad sometimes played on a Westinghouse softball team in the evenings and I played choose-up-sides baseball games during long, lazy summer afternoons…
