Sax player Bobby Selvaggio is one of the fairly long parade of Cleveland jazz musicians who moved to New York, only to decide after a time to move back and base their careers in their hometown.
It didn’t take Selvaggio as long as some to come to that conclusion — a mere four years. He returned with a masters degree in jazz performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and formidable chops on multiple instruments (he also plays clarinet and flute) he’s displayed on seven CDs as a bandleader. He’s got a new CD, Short Stories, due out in May on Origin Records.
When he plays at Nighttown, he’ll be bringing in New York-based drummer Carl Allen to be part of his all-star quartet. They’ll be joined by two northeast Ohio musicians, pianist Theron Brown and acoustic bassist Dave Morgan.
