When Courtney Bonning decided to move on to other projects and close her patisserie/sandwich shop Bon Bon Café in Ohio City, the space was snapped up by members of the family that started Aladdin’s to open Boaz in January 2017. It advertises that it serves “health Mediterranean food,” almost a redundancy since this is known as one of the world’s healthiest cuisines.
But Boaz goes an extra step. Everything it serves, including pita sandwiches, salads, appetizers, smoothies and freshly pressed juices is made from scratch with all-natural ingredients. It adds traditional Mediterranean flavors such as sumac, za’atar, lemon, garlic and sesame to make its dishes sparkle. You can even customize a dish to your own taste. And its takeout containers are fully compostable.
